Biden’s Equity Crusades Impact NASA

Let’s play multiple choice.

Which of these is not like the other?

  1. A plan to beat Russia and China back to the moon
  2. Research and development of humanity’s next technological breakthrough
  3. Improving weather prediction for early hurricane warning systems
  4. Focusing on radical gender theory and other political indoctrination

According to recently released documents acquired by the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), NASA is spending inordinate amounts of time, money, and other resources to ensure that its rocket scientists are re-educated in leftist propaganda.

Between 2021 and Spring 2023, NASA held dozens of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training sessions that range from avoiding “microaggressions” to understanding the “gender unicorn.” Although these documents are likely just the tip of the iceberg, they reveal a devastating reality: NASA is quickly devolving from humanity’s greatest expeditionary force to just another classroom pushing the Left’s political agenda.

Biden’s DEI executive order is costing NASA

After President Biden issued Executive Order 14091, which attempts to use the president’s executive powers to embed DEI ideology into every facet of the federal government, FGA filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with 23 government agencies to get a clear picture of how this left-wing DEI scheme is playing out on the ground.

The slew of documents returned by NASA paints a disturbing picture. Instead of focusing their time and efforts on the next space race, our nation’s top researchers and scientists have been subjected to left-wing indoctrination seminars disguised as employee trainings. These trainings, largely occurring over a span of about two years, cost nearly $500,000 and covered the Left’s most critical topics, including the microaggression of various handshakes, equity goals, and the ever-growing litany of gender pronouns.

With a budget the size of NASA’s, $500,000 may seem like a drop in the bucket, but half a million dollars can still buy enough eggshells to make our astronauts tiptoe even in outer space. Worse, the documents reveal NASA is no longer fishing for the best and brightest from the largest pool of possible candidates. Its hiring team—like other government agencies—now puts racial and gender equity over excellence or qualification.

President Biden has grounded NASA’s primary mission to safely explore the far reaches of space. His administration’s equity agenda is now in the rocket’s driver seat.

NASA documents pull the curtain back on the term “equity”

President Biden has issued several executive orders mandating that federal agencies illegally discriminate against individuals and consider equity in all decision-making. Each order defines equity to mean “the consistent and systematic treatment of all individuals in a fair, just, and impartial manner,” which sounds great until you realize that the terms “fair, just, and impartial” are never defined. As many already suspected, the Left’s ideas of fairness and justice are directly opposed to those on which the nation was founded.

The administration’s definition of equity is intended to obfuscate the true meaning of equity and conceal the illegal and unconstitutional practices of the federal government, but the NASA documents reveal the truth. A slide from A Primer on DEIA (this is the latest version of DEI that includes the term “accessibility”) states the following:

“Equity is not the same as equality. Equality is treating everyone the same regardless of identity. Equity is giving everyone what they specifically need because of their unique identity…If there is a goal of Diversity, then the goal of Equality is incompatible because people are different.”

There it is, straight from the pages of the Left’s new manual: Equality is incompatible with President Biden’s America.

Bottom Line: DEI is a threat—and states should act

The equity ideology is eroding American institutions by elevating a political agenda above excellence and merit. NASA will soon find out—like K-12 schools and universities have—what happens when you put propaganda before a proper education and focus on equity over excellence.

While the federal government wages a politically motivated war on these institutions, states must follow  the lead of Florida, Montana, Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas, and Kentucky in pushing back against DEI—if not outright banning it.

At FGA, we don’t just talk about changing policy—we make it happen.

By partnering with FGA through a gift, you can create more policy change that returns America to a country where entrepreneurship thrives, personal responsibility is rewarded, and paychecks replace welfare checks.
