Florida lawmakers must embrace pro-worker reforms

In January, Rep. Scott Plakon (R-Longwood) and Sen. Dennis Baxley (R-Ocala) filed a pair of bills to empower Florida’s public employees to decide for themselves whether union membership is right for them.

Known as Paycheck Protection, the legislative package includes reforms that have drawn significant pushback from the usual suspects — labor organizers, steadfast opponents to Gov. Ron DeSantis’s economic agenda, whose power and influence is derived from keeping workers locked in union membership without a choice.
