After the “guarantee” from House Agriculture Chairman Collin Peterson that the USDA’s proposal to rein in work-requirement waivers will “not happen,” FGA’s Vice President of Federal Affairs Kristina Rasmussen issued the following statement:
“By standing in the way of USDA’s proposal, Democrats are showing that they’re more willing to play politics than help Americans move from welfare to work. Despite near-record low unemployment, more than a third of the nation still lives in an area where able-bodied adults are exempt from commonsense work requirements. The proposed rule would help to move able-bodied Americans off the sidelines, but Democrats seem intent on keeping them from the benefits of work. By using tax dollars to launch a legal challenge against a rule that would deliver much-needed reform, Democrats are failing able-bodied Americans, employers that need workers, and voters that support welfare reform.”
