FGA Announces 2018 Champion Award Recipients

Naples, FL – The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) today announced recipients of the 2018 FGA Champion awards. These honors are awarded to leaders dedicated to promoting work and combating long-term dependency in their states.
The 2018 Legislator of the Year Award was given to Tennessee Senator Kerry Roberts and Tennessee Representative Dan Howell for their efforts to empower more Tennesseans to experience the power of work through commonsense welfare and work reforms. Both Senator Roberts and Rep. Howell worked to reduce red tape in Tennessee through occupational licensing reforms for those leaving prison and by promoting apprenticeships.
Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin received FGA’s Governor of the Year Award for his leadership in advancing welfare and work reforms. This past year, Kentucky became the first state to implement work requirements for able-bodied adults on Medicaid. The Bevin administration has also been committed to breaking down barriers to work for those leaving prison and has implemented licensing reforms to bring the power of work to more Kentuckians.
FGA’s Unsung Hero Awards was awarded to Lisa Jacobson, a Colorado entrepreneur who battled burdensome licensing laws that threatened her ability to provide for her family. Lisa worked with local policymakers to enact reforms that empowered entrepreneurs to experience the freedom of work.
