Washington, D.C. — A new video, released today by the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), highlights House Speaker Paul Ryan’s vision for welfare reform that emphasizes the power of work and focuses on moving millions from welfare to work.
In the past, federal welfare policies that discourage work have trapped record numbers of able-bodied Americans in government dependency, despite proof that work requirements move able-bodied adults off welfare and back to work quickly and effectively, doubling incomes and helping people find work in over 600 industries.
Congress and the Trump administration have voiced their support for these commonsense reforms and their commitment to reforming the food stamp program, among other welfare programs.
“Of all times, in this economy, when we have all these job openings, when there are opportunities right in front of you…this is the time to get people off the sidelines, out of poverty, into the workforce, into school, so that they can reach their version of the American Idea—their version of the American Dream,” said Ryan.
FGA applauds Speaker Ryan’s efforts to implement policies that will lift Americans from the grip of government dependency, allowing them to experience self-sufficiency and the freedom of work.
