Trump opens the door to moving millions off welfare

This week, the Trump administration took an important step forward in getting millions of Americans off the sidelines and into jobs by signing an executive order on welfare. The directive is clear: Able-bodied adults should have to work to receive welfare. With the executive order, the Trump administration laid the groundwork to use the power of work to move millions off welfare.

I recently had the opportunity to share the story of a governor who is already leading in this area. Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts of Nebraska knows if you want to win on the war on poverty then it is imperative that you end the war on work. By focusing on policies rooted in re-employment rather than unemployment, Nebraska has its lowest unemployment rate in years — and a low rate of able-bodied adults on food stamps.
