The Foundation for Government Accountability applauds the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for approving Arizona’s request to reduce excessive Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) replacement cards. Excessive replacement cards are often the result of individuals selling or otherwise trafficking their welfare benefits. Under Arizona’s approved waiver, households who have already requested two replacement cards will now be required to contact the state prior to receiving an additional replacement.
“By lowering the threshold on excessive replacement cards, USDA has given Arizona an additional tool to prevent welfare fraud, waste, and abuse that robs valuable resources from the truly vulnerable,” FGA President and CEO Tarren Bragdon said.
