Watered Gardens Gospel Rescue Mission in Joplin, MO views charity differently than most organizations: rather than providing handouts to those in need, the rescue mission asks residents to give up their government benefits in favor of work. In doing so, residents are able to avoid the trap of dependency and become fully self-reliant.
The residents and employees of Watered Gardens each bring a unique story of gaining dignity and independence through work—some have battled addiction and some have experienced homelessness, but each of them traded a lifetime of government dependence for work when they came to Watered Gardens.
