State Sen. Lynn Hutchings on the importance of work and personal responsibility

“Work is so important. It gives us a sense of pride, a sense of ‘you’ve accomplished something’ every day.”

– State sen. lynn hutchings

State Senator Lynn Hutchings of Wyoming knew the value and importance of work from a young age. Her mother was on welfare for a time, but “made up her mind” to seek self-sufficiency and freedom from generational dependency. Hutchings watched her mother work multiple jobs to make sure she and her three siblings were well taken care of and developed a strong work ethic.

Here, State Sen. Hutchings shares how work builds character—how it requires personal responsibility and integrity—and how she encourages others in her community to escape generational dependency through work as she mentors young people.
