U.S. Senator Rick Scott (FL): I believe in the dream of this country

“I believe in safety nets…but nobody should be dependent on government that can work. Nobody.”

– Senator Rick Scott

U.S. Senator Rick Scott’s first job was selling TV guides door to door. He made two dollars each week.

He credits his mother’s encouragement and persistence in helping him become successful. Now, he is advocating for the power of work and helping Americans achieve their dreams. Safety nets are important, he says, but no one who is capable of working should be dependent on government.

Here, Senator Scott discusses the importance of a job in a person’s life—and how one of the most important things you can do to help a family is to get them a job.
