WI State Rep. Alex Dallman: Work is fundamental

“Work is fundamental for everybody in society.”

– SeNATOR ALEX DALLMAN

Wisconsin State Representative Alex A. Dallman believes that hard work provides a sense of dignity. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals could earn more on unemployment than they could earn while working.

Here, Rep. Dallman discusses how unemployment indexing would help reform the state’s unemployment program. With indexing, unemployment benefits would be tied to the state’s unemployment levels: If there is an abundance of jobs available, then the length of time individuals are allowed to claim unemployment would shorten, and vice versa. He points out how this reform would mirror Florida, which has had significant success in getting people back to work and fully funding their unemployment insurance trust fund.
