Maine has led the way in welfare reforms, setting a precedent for reforms across the nation and at the federal level, and has experienced incredible success as a result. The success can largely be attributed to the tenacity and dedication of Governor Paul LePage, whose own experience as a child on welfare motivated his decision to attack the welfare state during his time in office.
