Require Supermajority to Raise Taxes

Most states only require a simple majority in the state legislature to raise taxes.

But this is the American people’s money. That’s why states shouldn’t be able to bring more of it into government coffers without a supermajority of the people’s representatives weighing in.

Currently, 17 states require a supermajority—such as a two-thirds vote in both houses—to raise taxes. Other states should follow this trend to protect taxpayers and foster economic stability.
