Three Recipients Honored with Legislator of the Year Award

Naples, FL – The Foundation for Government Accountability was honored to name three state senators and representatives as the recipients for the 2017 Legislator of the Year award for their unrelenting commitment to reforms that advanced health care solutions and will free individuals and families from government dependency.

Recipients of the Legislator of the Year award are: Arkansas Rep. Austin McCollum, Mississippi Sen. Kevin Blackwell, and Ohio Sen. Bill Coley. Each of these policymakers were dedicated to advancing solutions that will reduce government dependency, promote work, and help reverse the negative impact that ObamaCare has had across the nation.

Below are the reforms advanced by these representatives and senators in 2017.

  • McCollum: successfully enacted SNAP work requirements and asset tests to prevent fraud and abuse in Arkansas
  • Senator Coley: championed the Medicaid work requirement, which was eventually signed into law, as well as a “freeze” design to rein in the explosive growth of Ohio’s Medicaid expansion
  • Blackwell: enacted the HOPE Act, the most comprehensive welfare reform bill ever passed by a state legislature

“The representatives and senators who were named FGA’s 2017 Legislators of the Year could not be more deserving of the honor—and their accomplishments show it. Each of them was unrelenting in pushing reforms that will free individuals from the trap of government dependency,” said Tarren Bragdon, FGA CEO and President. “The combined efforts of these policymakers are inspiring, and the positive effects will be felt for years to come. The future is bright in these states because of the commitment of these policymakers, and I look forward to seeing what more positive change they bring in sessions to come.”
