The Foundation for Government Accountability Applauds the Trump Administration for Price Transparency, Patient Empowerment

FGA’s Fight for Price Transparency Pays Off as Trump Administration Reignites Reforms

NAPLES, FL – The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) applauds the Trump administration for renewing its commitment to health care price transparency by prioritizing the Transparency in Coverage rule.

Last week, the administration filed a Request for Information (RFI) seeking public input on how to fully implement rules requiring insurance companies to disclose the real prices of prescription drugs. The move marks a significant step forward in giving patients clear, upfront pricing information—and directly cites FGA’s work. This milestone follows years of FGA-led efforts and legal battles for transparency in medical pricing, giving patients and their families the information they need to make informed decisions.

In 2023, FGA sued the Biden administration after it quietly delayed enforcement of these rules. The lawsuit was successful, and the administration was forced to reverse course and restore enforcement.

Patients deserve to know what their health care costs are before they receive a surprise bill in the mail,” said Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA. “Thanks to President Trump’s bold action, families will finally get the transparency they deserve. This is a major step toward restoring fairness and accountability in a health care system that has too often put profits ahead of patients.”

“FGA has worked relentlessly to hold the Biden administration accountable for turning its back on patients,” Bragdon continued. “We took the administration to court—and we won—because Americans deserve honesty and transparency in their health care. We’re proud to have a true partner in the Trump administration, and together, we’ll make sure families have transparent access to all medical and prescription drug costs before deciding on their care. This is one more way the Trump administration is lowering the cost of living for American families.”

Background:

FGA sued the Biden administration to enforce Trump-era transparency measures, winning legal battles on both hospital and prescription drug pricing disclosure. Despite these victories, the Biden administration continued to withhold records and delay enforcement. President Trump is again delivering for the American people by reinstating and moving to enforce the rules his administration originally championed.

Earlier this year, President Trump signed an executive order to restore his first-term rule and empower patients through price transparency.
