Senator Barrasso Introduces Bill to Protect the Truly Needy on Medicaid

FGA applauds Sen. Barrasso for introducing bill to enforce basic asset verification, prevent abuse, and keep millionaires off Medicaid

NAPLES, FL The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) commends Sen. Barrasso (R-WY) for introducing the Safeguarding Medicaid Act, which would enforce the Medicaid asset verification program to all applicants and recipients. This vital legislation will help safeguard taxpayer dollars by ensuring that Medicaid benefits are directed only to the truly needy, preventing individuals with substantial financial resources from abusing the program.

“Rising Medicaid costs are causing federal and state budgets to spiral out of control. Elected leaders across the country are now grappling with ways to improve the integrity of their programs, including setting proper eligibility checks to keep millionaires off Medicaid,” said Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO of FGA. Sen. Barrasso is tackling this broken area of the Medicaid program head-on to ensure benefits go to the truly needy instead of those with substantial financial means.”

“This bill is a commonsense solution to not only protect basic program integrity but also reserve limited taxpayer resources for those who truly need the safety net,” continued Bragdon.
