
The Foundation for Government Accountability applauds USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue for committing to move more Americans from welfare to work

On January 24, USDA released its “2018 Farm Bill Principles.” These principles highlight that “work as the pathway to self-sufficiency, well-being and economic mobility for individuals and families.”
Secretary Perdue has previously stated that one goal of the administration is to help more Americans “transition from government programs, back to work, and into lives of independence.” This commitment was echoed by FNS Administrator Brandon Lipps earlier this year, as the administration focuses on “moving individuals to work and self-sufficiency.”
Secretary Purdue and Administrator Lipps are right – work is what works to move people out of dependency. To make sure these principles are put into practice, USDA and Congress should ensure the following reforms are included:
