Foundation for Government Accountability Releases Letter in Support of House Bill 11 Alongside 11 Grassroots Organizations

NAPLES, FL – Today, the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), Americans for Prosperity-Ohio (AFP-OH), and the Pacific Legal Foundation (PLF), alongside 11 additional Ohio grassroots coalitions, released a letter expressing strong support for House Bill 11. This bill, regarding the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, is a critical step towards fostering transparency and accountability in the rulemaking process.

In the letter, the organizations highlighted three key provisions of House Bill 11 that will significantly benefit Ohioans:

  • Restoring Accountability and Transparency: House Bill 11 will ensure that any regulation with significant financial impact undergoes legislative approval, preventing unelected agencies from imposing costly rules without oversight.
  • Protecting Ohio’s Economy and Taxpayers: By requiring elected representatives to review major regulations, the bill aims to prevent regulatory overreach that could stifle job growth, raise living costs, and harm Ohio’s competitiveness.
  • Fostering a Pro-Growth Regulatory Environment: The REINS Act will promote responsible policymaking, safeguard small businesses from undue burdens, and support innovation, investment, and opportunity across the state.

“Ohioans deserve transparency and accountability at every level. Instead, they’re often stuck dealing with the consequences of costly, complex rules handed down by unelected bureaucrats, without any real say in the process,” said Emma Garelick, State Government Affairs Director at FGA. “The REINS Act is a bold and crucial step to restoring the balance of power in Columbus and is essential to keeping Ohio families safe from the costly government rules making life more expensive.”

“Burdensome government regulations hinder growth, stifle economic development, and make life more difficult for everyday Ohioans. The REINS Act is a necessary step to ensure regulatory policies work in the best interest of the people, not bureaucratic interests. We’d like to thank Reps. Ferguson and Lorenz for their leadership, and today, we urge the General Assembly to support this critical piece of legislation.

“AFP-OH is committed to working closely with lawmakers to advance the REINS Act and fast-track it into law. We are encouraged by the progress of H.B. 11, and we see its impending passage as a major step towards breaking down barriers to growth within our rulemaking process.”  said Donovan O’Neil, State Director at AFP-OH.
