Naples, FL — The Trump administration published a new rule that will bolster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) integrity by closing a loophole that allowed retailers charged with violating program rules to continue redeeming benefits. The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) offered the following statement in response.
“President Trump and his team have closed another loophole that has allowed food stamp fraudsters to steal money from a program meant for the truly needy,” said Sam Adolphsen, policy director at FGA. “The Trump administration has taken unprecedented steps to rein in fraud, waste, and abuse in the food stamp program, including trying to close the notorious Broad-Based Categorical Eligibility (BBCE) gimmick that allows millionaires to get food stamps. Despite continued opposition from Speaker Pelosi and others on the left, the president is making headway. This rule is the latest example of the administration putting hardworking Americans and the truly needy first by fighting back against fraud and abuse in government programs.”
