FGA COO Jonathan Bechtle Receives Overton Award

Naples, FL – Jonathan Bechtle, chief operating officer at the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA), was honored with the Overton Award at the State Policy Network’s 26th Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Overton Award represents the highest recognition in the liberty movement for the COO or EVP who exhibits qualities of leadership, loyalty, management innovation, and support for the cause of liberty. The award celebrates the individual who not only helps create the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic direction, but who also oversees its day-to-day implementation.

“This award has been given to some of the fiercest and brightest defenders of liberty, and I am honored to join their ranks. It is an honor to play a role in turning FGA’s vision—one that empowers Americans with the dignity and independence of work—into a reality,” said Bechtle.

Bechtle has served as FGA’s COO and general counsel since 2013. Prior to joining FGA, Bechtle served as COO and then CEO at the Freedom Foundation, a free-market think tank in Olympia, Washington.

“When Jonathan first arrived at FGA, we were just a few guys in a big open shared office. We used to joke that the lack of walls was a metaphor for the lack of structure within the entire organization,” said Tarren Bragdon, CEO and President of FGA. “During his tenure, Jonathan has helped build a company and culture that operates with transparency, accountability, rapid growth, and continual success. There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Jonathan.”

“Recipients of the Overton Award are vital partners to their CEOs. They help craft mission and strategy, but they also oversee the crucial operational work that’s essential to victory. SPN proudly recognizes Jonathan Bechtle for the remarkable leadership he has provided to the Foundation for Government Accountability and our network at large. We wish him continued success and look forward to seeing all his future accomplishments in an already stellar career advancing the cause of freedom,” said Tracie Sharp, President and CEO of State Policy Network.
