Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, Tarren Bragdon, CEO and president of the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) will testify in front of the U.S. House of Representatives during the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s hearing on fraud and program integrity in the food stamp program.
Despite record-low unemployment rates and millions of available jobs across the nation, welfare enrollment has skyrocketed over the past decade. FGA has long advocated for state and federal policy reforms that move able-bodied adults from welfare work, eliminate fraud and abuse, and preserve resources for the truly needy.
Bragdon’s comments highlight the need to restore the welfare system to its initial purpose as a temporary safety net for the truly needy by eliminating loopholes within the food stamp program and working to “find solutions to fraud and integrity problems in the food stamp program to protect the program for the truly needy who rely on it, and for the taxpayers who fund it.”
