FGA Applauds Senator Rick Scott’s Proposal to Make Health Care More Affordable

Senator Scott’s More Affordable Care Act gives American families more choices, lower prices, and greater health care freedom.

NAPLES, FL— The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) today praised Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) for introducing the More Affordable Care Act. This badly-needed reform package puts patients in control of their health care decisions instead of insurance companies and Washington bureaucrats.

For years, the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, has failed to deliver on its promises. Costs have risen, choices have collapsed, and working families have been trapped in a system designed to funnel taxpayer dollars toward large hospital systems and insurance companies. Senator Scott’s proposal offers a necessary course correction, restores transparency, expands choice, and reestablishes free-market principles that put patients back in the driver’s seat.

“ObamaCare has failed American families for years, and extending Biden’s temporary COVID subsidies would only have made the broken system worse,” said Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO at the Foundation for Government Accountability. “Instead, Senator Scott’s bill offers a free-market alternative that will finally put patients first and start to drive down the cost of coverage for Americans struggling with the rising cost of health care.”

Senator Scott’s legislation:

• Establishes HSA-style Trump Health Freedom Accounts that ensure federal support is sent directly to families rather than funneled toward insurance companies
• Ensures all funds are Hyde-compliant
by restricting use for abortion plans or abortion-related services
• Offers additional plan options
that create market-driven incentives to lower costs
• Allows Americans to shop across state lines
through a new Affordable Care Act waiver program, expanding competition and increasing the number of plans available on existing ACA exchanges
• Requires any plan approved by a waiver state’s insurance commissioner to be sold on an accessible exchange—
whether healthcare.gov, a state exchange, or a state-managed commercial platform
• Codifies President Trump’s health care transparency executive order,
giving patients upfront, easy-to-understand pricing so families can make informed decisions
• Maintains protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions
• Enhances the Small Business Tax Credit
to encourage employer-sponsored coverage and expand access

“For years, conservatives have talked about expanding choice, increasing transparency, and supporting the needs of individuals instead of insurers. This bill accomplishes those goals and would help reverse the alarming trends of disease and debt to get America back on the path of becoming healthier and wealthier,” said Tarren Bragdon, President and CEO at the Foundation for Government Accountability. “Policymakers can firmly reject the temporary subsidies propping up ObamaCare and support this comprehensive alternative that moves our country toward a health care system that actually works.”
