Naples, FL — Today the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced a new rule that will increase price transparency for medical services. The rule requires hospitals to release the real price of services in a machine-readable format, allowing patients to compare options and costs from their smartphones.
“This is welcome news for patients across the country, giving them the same flexibility with the cost of health care services they’ve come to expect from other services, like buying a car or plane tickets,” said Josh Archambault, senior fellow at the Foundation for Government Accountability. “This rule will help families save thousands of dollars, whether they’re shopping for a one-time procedure or for treatment for a chronic condition. This is a huge win, taking the principles of tried and tested state reform and bringing it to a national scale.”
