National Unemployment Bonus and Wyden Proposal Poll

Voters support allowing the additional $300 weekly unemployment bonus to expire in September as scheduled.

Voters are more likely to support allowing the $300 weekly unemployment bonus to expire when they know:
  • Schools are Reopening: Most schools nationwide are scheduled to be fully re-opened by this fall.
  • New Businesses Were Created: When the previous UI bonus expired in 2020, more than a million new businesses were able to open in the subsequent three months.
Voters are also more likely to support allowing the $300 weekly unemployment bonus to expire when they know:
  • The economy is reopening and there are currently more than 7.4 million jobs available in the United States.
  • The US is having to borrow money from China in order to pay for these expanded unemployment payments.
  • The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office determined the bonus is not an efficient way to stimulate economic growth.
  • On average, lower-wage workers receiving the bonus made nearly $4,500 more per year than they did while working.
