Voters Support Ending the $600 Unemployment Bonus, New FGA Polling Shows

Naples, FL — More than half of likely voters want to see the $600 unemployment bonus expire as planned at the end of July, according to new polling done by the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA). According to the poll, 53 percent of all voters want to see the bonus expire as planned.

“The American people know that extending inflated unemployment benefits will only further hinder our economic recovery,” said Nick Stehle, vice president of communications at FGA. “We need to help people back to work. Extending these benefits will only do the opposite.”

Additionally, likely voters oppose a one-time hiring bonus for people who are returning to work and oppose bailouts for states that refuse to safely reopen their states for business, while 55 percent favor waiting until later this year before even considering state bailouts.

Results for this poll are based on automated telephone interviews conducted among nationwide samples of a combined 1,011 likely voters. The surveys were conducted June 22 – 24, 2020. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 4.35 and 4.37 percentage points, respectively. FGA paid for all costs associated with the survey.
