New Think Tank to Help Make Florida Most Economically Vibrant State

NAPLES – A new think tank in Naples aims to help make Florida the most economically vibrant state in the nation. The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) was launched this summer to develop and promote free market policies that achieve limited, constitutional government and a robust Florida economy that will be an engine for job creation across the state.

“Individual freedom and private enterprise are the keys to Florida’s economic future,” said FGA President and Chief Executive Officer Tarren Bragdon. “The Foundation for Government Accountability will be a resource for taxpayers and policymakers who seek a Florida booming with new entrepreneurs, well-educated children, a top-rate health care system, and an affordable, open government that protects freedom.”

FGA’s initial focus has been on government transparency and patient-centered health reform. FGA also will be publishing a series this fall on entrepreneurs, economic growth and what government can do to help grow private sector jobs in Florida.

Bragdon is a well-known figure in the state-based free market movement. Prior to launching FGA, he served as chief executive officer of the Maine Heritage Policy Center, a similar organization based in Portland, Maine. In that role, he also served as Co-Chair of then-Maine Governor Elect Paul LePage’s transition, and chairman of LePage’s Budget Working Group. In 2010, he was the recipient of the Roe Award, given annually by the State Policy Network to the individual with the greatest impact on the free market movement. Bragdon is also a nationally-recognized health care expert with a specialty in Medicaid reform. He has testified before the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee and in numerous state legislative committees and conferences.

FGA has listed three primary goals for the organization: to help make Florida the most economically vibrant state in the America; to engage policymakers, the media and the public with rigorous analysis and tireless advocacy of its market-based reforms; and to hold all levels of Florida government accountable to taxpayers.

“As government grows in size and complexity, and as people lose faith in their elected officials, it’s important that organization exist to influence government on behalf of the taxpayers, and move the state toward common sense reforms and a growing economy,” Bragdon said. “The Foundation for Government Accountability will give the public peace of mind that their financial security and personal freedom will be at the forefront of all policy debates.
