Naples, FL — Nearly two-thirds of small business owners are worried about their employees not returning to work, according to new polling done by the Foundation for Government Accountability.
According to the poll, 65 percent of small business owners fear they will lose their employees. Coronavirus aid packages have made remaining on unemployment more lucrative than returning to work.
“Right now, many Americans can make more money by remaining unemployed than by going back to work. Extending unemployment bonuses will only continue to disincentivize work—and economic recovery,” said Nick Stehle, vice president of communications at FGA. “It is crucially important that we help these employers—and workers—return to normal as quickly as possible. That means ending any disincentives to work and preserving the American Dream.”
Results for this poll are based on automated telephone interviews conducted among a nationwide sample of 501 small business owners. The surveys were conducted May 27 – June 1, 2020. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 4.38 percentage points. FGA paid for all costs associated with the survey.
