FGA Praises USDA Rule Preserving Food Stamp Program Integrity

|

After the USDA finalized a rule that could better ensure welfare benefits go to the truly needy by clarifying food stamp eligibility rules for lottery winners, FGA Vice President of Federal Affairs Kristina Rasmussen issued the following statement:

“FGA has consistently championed reforms to protect welfare program integrity. When an individual continues to collect welfare after winning it big, needy Americans who didn’t become millionaires overnight pay the price. Tightening eligibility requirements and boosting program integrity ensures that benefits go to the people welfare programs were actually designed to help. We commend USDA for revising the disqualifying threshold for household lottery winnings.”

FGA President and CEO Tarren Bragdon also provided public testimony last fall on food stamp fraud and program integrity, and FGA submitted a public comment on the proposed rule. To read more about FGA’s reforms to protect welfare integrity, including Stop the Scam and asset tests, click here.
