Naples, FL — Today, the Trump administration announced a new final rule, titled “Removing the Inability to Communicate in English as an Education Category,” that will modernize antiquated agency guidelines that remained unchanged for more than 40 years. The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) released the following statement in support.
“The Social Security Administration’s new rule sends a powerful message: Adults with manageable work limitations, including limited English proficiency, should be empowered and encouraged to work,” said Robin Walker, senior director of federal affairs at FGA. “Since 1980, the number of non-English speakers in the workforce has risen dramatically. It’s time our disability guidelines matched our modern, diverse economy and helped protect the sustainability of our disability programs.”
