FGA Applauds Sen. Mike Lee’s Dedication to Removing Medicaid Handcuffs Put on States in FFCRA

Naples, FL — Senator Mike Lee, along with Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith, Ted Cruz, Ben Sasse, and Mike Braun, submitted a letter to President Trump yesterday urging action on the Medicaid “maintenance of effort” (MOE) provision in the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). The provision requires states to maintain all Medicaid enrollees regardless of eligibility. The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) offered the following statement in support:

“This MOE provision has been a danger to state budgets and the truly needy since its inception, and we’re glad to see Senator Lee leading the charge to protect state budgets and the most vulnerable Americans,” said Robin Walker, senior director of federal affairs at FGA. “Now is the time to restore to states the flexibility they previously had to ensure the integrity of their Medicaid programs. This is the only way state budgets will be able to begin to recover from the strain placed on them by the coronavirus.”
