Naples, FL — After the Florida House of Representatives passed HB959, which requires that patients are provided with an estimate of their medical bill before services are provided and protects patients, including the chronically ill, from further predatory medical billing practices, the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) released the following statement:
“This legislation is a mammoth deal for patients in Florida, and is the strongest step yet in protecting Florida families from surprise medical bills that often add insult to injury,” said Tarren Bragdon, president and CEO of FGA. “These safeguards ensure that Floridians are able to make informed decisions about their health care, and solidifies Florida’s position as a national leader on consumer-centric health care reform.”
As new polling from Opportunity Solutions Project (OSP) shows, this legislation could not come at a better time. Seventy-two percent of Florida voters support providing patients with detailed cost information ahead of treatment.
