Naples, FL – The Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) applauds Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and the Oklahoma Legislature for enacting legislation to move more able-bodied adults on Medicaid from welfare to work.
New legislation, sponsored by Rep. Glen Mulready and Sen. Adam Pugh, requires able-bodied adults on Medicaid to work, train, or volunteer at least part-time as a condition of eligibility. Work requirements have led to increased incomes and reduced dependency when implemented in other welfare programs. This new law follows Governor Fallin’s earlier executive order, which directed the Oklahoma Health Care Authority to pursue Medicaid work requirements.
“Work is an effective and proven way to move able-bodied adults out of dependency and into self-sufficiency,” said Tarren Bragdon, CEO and President of FGA. “We commend Gov. Fallin, Rep. Mulready, Sen. Pugh, and the entire Oklahoma legislature for their commitment to freeing individuals from the welfare trap and preserving resources for the truly needy.”
