Mary Katherine is a senior fellow at the Foundation for Government Accountability.
After brief tours working for two state agencies and the conservative caucus of the Texas Legislature, Mary Katherine joined the Texas Public Policy Foundation in 2005, first as a policy analyst and director of the Center for Health Care Policy, and later leading the Foundation’s policy work as vice president of policy.
In 2008, Mary Katherine joined then-Governor Rick Perry’s senior staff as director of budget and policy where she oversaw the development of the governor’s policy initiatives and budget priorities throughout state government. In 2012, Mary Katherine became senior adviser to the executive commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the umbrella agency with over all of the health and human services programs in the state, including Medicaid, women’s health, child protective services, public health programs, and regulatory services, among others.
Mary Katherine is a native Texan and graduate of Texas A&M University. She lives in Austin with her husband and three children.
