War on Work Newsletter—7.1.2021

I know it’s almost Independence Day weekend, but I wanted to give you a quick update on the War on Work.

The jobs numbers we’ve seen coming in from across the country show one thing: States that have opted out of the unemployment bonus are seeing major economic gains.

The American economic comeback is happening. And it’s being led by states that have opted out of the $300-a-week unemployment bonus.

We have the data to prove it: Our newest research brief details how the unemployment bonus is holding back states that haven’t opted out. The states that have ditched the bonus are seeing plummeting unemployment claims.

The truth can’t be denied: The unemployment bonus is a disaster for businesses that are in desperate need of workers.

So far, more than half the states in the country have opted out of the unemployment bonus—including one state with a Democratic governor. These states are hearing the outcry from business owners, who can’t hire enough workers.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration is pushing a new incentive not to work: the child tax credit.Democrats in Congress want to make this a permanent credit, creating more dependency on top of the stimulus checks and an increase in food stamp and Medicaid benefits.

Businesses need workers. But the Biden administration’s policies are discouraging potential workers to stay home.

President Biden once dubbed this summer the “summer of freedom.” COVID-19 restrictions are gone. Businesses are hiring everywhere.

Yet the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress are pushing policies that keep workers on the sidelines. Their anti-work policies are turning the summer of freedom into a summer of dependency.

On this Independence Day weekend, we should remember what the true spirit of freedom means: freedom to work for yourself, your family, and your community. Government dependency is not the freedom we declared independence over in 1776.

I hope you have a great Fourth of July!

At FGA, we don’t just talk about changing policy—we make it happen.

By partnering with FGA through a gift, you can create more policy change that returns America to a country where entrepreneurship thrives, personal responsibility is rewarded, and paychecks replace welfare checks.
