A note from Tarren.

On what your partnership built this year.

In 2025, the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) captured an opportunity for generational reform that just a few years earlier seemed highly unlikely. Eight months after voters gave Republicans control of Congress and the White House, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB), containing the most significant welfare reform in U.S. history, was signed into law.

This wasn’t an accident. It was the result of more than a decade of hard work and getting the details right—all fueled by your generosity.

After more than a decade of working in the states and earning trust on Capitol Hill, we were ready to win in Washington, D.C.

Our policy team helped shape national policy priorities, drafted key materials, and supported the presidential transition. Today, FGA alumni serve in senior roles on the President’s Domestic Policy Council. Now we’re leading the way to make sure all 50 states implement these historic reforms.

Thank you for your partnership and all you’ve accomplished so far—and thank you in advance for what we will do next. Together.

OBBB · Signed July 4, 2025

The largest welfare reform in American history.

For nearly 30 years, the gold standard for welfare reform was the 1996 Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act, the bipartisan law that ended “welfare as we knew it.” OBBB is bigger. Ten times bigger.

How the work gets done

Behind every win, a small army.

Reform doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when researchers, pollsters, writers, and government affairs experts show up every day, in every state, with the data lawmakers need to act with confidence. Here’s what your partnership made possible in 2025.

In their own words

The lawmakers who lived it.

When the One Big Beautiful Bill Act came together in the spring of 2025, FGA was in the room. Briefing senators. Drafting language. Modeling savings. Answering questions at every hour. The men and women who carried OBBB across the finish line know what that partnership looked like. Here’s what one of them had to say.

Your presentation on Medicaid reform to the Republican caucus made all the difference in getting more than $1 trillion in Medicaid savings.
— U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL)

Senator Scott’s words are one of dozens of similar notes FGA received from members of Congress, governors, state legislators, and administration officials in 2025. The thank-yous matter, but what matters more is what they reflect: a movement that knows where to turn when it’s ready to act.

A long road to here

Fourteen years. Fifty states.
