MEDIA ADVISORY: OBAMACARE MEDICAID EXPANSION DEFEATED IN UTAH
UTAH GOV. PLEDGES TO CONTINUE EXPLORING WAYS TO EXPAND OBAMACARE IN THE STATE

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert held a press conference today to discuss the future of ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion in the state, following the defeat of his Healthy Utah plan and an alternative expansion plan during the legislative session.

During the press conference, Herbert announced that the House and Senate will pass a concurrent resolution to keep considering ObamaCare expansion in Utah, and they will establish a task force to work on the issue and make recommendations before a special session this summer.

“The Utah legislature already found the right solution for ObamaCare’s expansion in the state, and that is to defeat it,” said Tarren Bragdon, the Foundation for Government Accountability CEO.

“While we are disappointed that the Governor plans to continue pushing Washington’s agenda, we welcome the opportunity. We know that the more people know about Obamacare Medicaid expansion the less they like it. We can now get past empty slogans like ‘Healthy Utah’ and talk about the underlying reality – runaway spending, expanding dependence on government, and giving control of Utah over to the Federal Government. We are glad there are strong leaders in Utah, like Speaker Greg Hughes and others, who continue to stand up for the people of the state. We will keep up the fight alongside the voters of Utah and the many other groups that are still speaking out against expansion.”

The FGA will continue to support conservative principles in Utah, helping voters learn the facts about ObamaCare Medicaid expansion and connecting them with their representatives to ensure their voices are heard.
